About Us
The Green Bird Network is a revolutionary step in building and maintaining a Distributed Knowledge Network of biodiversity information
for the use of everyone. Whether you be a scientist, a naturalist, or someone who loves birds, you will be able to access and share your
data with people all over the globe. Whatever the context, for whatever the reason, the Green Bird Network is there for you.
As it stands, accessing specific, up to date birding information is a difficult task. Even if one finds the facts and info that they’re looking for, it could be skewed, out of date, or simply too jumbled to make any sense out of. Bird lovers, naturalists and scientists have different ways of recording information, and when the task of consolidating this wealth of data gets under way, it turns into a monumental undertaking because of the various formats. In fact, 80% of the time and resources spent by scientists involved in large projects is on organizing information! Clearly, this isn’t the most efficient way of compiling data. The Green Bird Network changes all that with a universal data entry system and a Distributed Knowledge Network for the entire world to use. Anyone in the field, whether they are a naturalist, scientist, or just someone who loves birds, will use the same standards to record their own data. With this universal system, the data can be collected and organized into an ever-changing Distributed Knowledge Network of birding information; an unending plethora of knowledge for everyone on the planet to enjoy. Preserving our world through knowledge. Because the data is in the same format, it can be easily combined into a Distributed Knowledge Network that is always growing in breath and depth, a living network. Also, one can access the information in a variety of ways, allowing for incredibly specific searches for information that would simply not have been possible until now. For example, if you wanted to make a checklist of exactly which birds were seen in Point Pelee National Park in the month of June, you could search that, and more. The Green Bird Network provides the ability for you to create a short list of birds seen in your neighborhood. It allows you to then quickly make correct identifications of the birds you are seeing in your backyard on a daily basis. Your kids will be able to identify birds which will give them a better appreciation for nature. So why not have a gander at everything Green Bird Network offers? Click here to find out more! |
