FAQs Does Fair Chance 2010 have a particular political leaning? No, it is a broadly representative group of community leaders. Is Fair Chance 2010 affiliated with any mayoral candidate? No. It is completely independent. Why should this group be able to choose candidates? The committee isn´t choosing candidates. We will encourage some to run, but the decision to stand for election is the candidate´s alone. The ultimate choice will be made by the voters. Will Fair Chance 2010 endorse candidates? No. We will serve as a resource for candidates and we will encourage voters to get informed about newcomers before they vote ... but we will not endorse candidates. It´s up to the individual voter to decide who can best represent them. Is this a like a political party? No. The candidates will not be running on a single platform or be expected to vote together if elected. Is Fair Chance 2010 anti-incumbent? No. Our goal is to provide good choices. Acclamations and lopsided races don´t serve local democracy. What help will Fair Chance 2010 give the candidates? Committee members will offer informal mentoring to the candidates and more formal sessions on topics such as how to run a campaign, the use of social media in campaigning, how to deal with the mainstream media and how the city budget works. Why do candidates need this kind of help? It is difficult for people who aren´t professional politicians to know how to present themselves to greatest advantage. The committee hopes to share its experience to help promising candidates. What about candidates who don´t get Fair Chance 2010´s approval? The group workshops we run will be open to all candidates. |
